Millions of human beings were subjected to the inhumanity of the Gulag. In the majority of cases, only a few official records - if at all - have come down to us. The task of documenting the entire spectrum of prisoners can be no more than approximated. The life stories presented here, however, are striking testimonies to the wide variety of charges on which people were committed to the Gulag. Anyone could have suffered their fate.
